Scriptures: Joshua 1:5-9
Main Reflection: Be strong and courageous
Purpose: To obey the word of God

  1. Being strong and courageous because of the received promise: the guide should be at the front but not necessarily on top. Need to be able to judge the difference between a leader and a ruler. To understand the grace of God is to realize more how to make responsibility commensurate with grace.
  2. The environments (the Jordan River, the city of Jericho) that Joshua faced in the promised land were all unfamiliar to him. Yet he was willing to be strong and courageous and took up the work of Moses in leading the people.
  3. Example of Jesus Christ becoming a leader: the night of the arrest, He asked the soldiers to let His disciples go and thus laid down His life for the sheep as opposed to Marx, who was a ruler. He wanted his people to sacrifice for him.
  4. The famous schools in the U.S. and Europe are the hot beds of wickedness (homosexuality, premarital sex). The Christians in them should be the light and salt, strong and courageous, not be influenced, and not be afraid of being scorned and ridiculed.
  5. Being strong and courageous because of obeying the Law: the Law of God is the biggest safeguard to life. Word of God is the basis of Christian walk.
  6. The negative nature of the law is to convict man of guilt in regards to sin. Its positive nature is to enable man to know that the word of God has salvation.
  7. To persist in reading the Bible requires strength and courage. Do not despair when you have no recollection after you have read the Bible because God will use the Scriptures you have read to help you in the time of need.
  8. You are willing to obey with strength and courage even though the word of God does not agree with you.
  9. Being strong and courageous because God is with you: if one is not careful to listen to the spoken word of God, he/she will lose out. Faith is knowing the origin but not the location.
  10. The correct aim of a prayer is to turn around that which was petitioned to God to submit to His will where He will be with you.
  11. A humble heart is: to admit that we are created; limited individual; and also sinful.
  12. The deceptions in the end times are ever increasing. Only the word of God can protect.
