Ice breaker: I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Revelation 3:18

Scriptures: Revelation 3:18-20, 2Kings 6:15-17, Isaiah 22:22-24, John 9:1-11, Genesis 12:1/13:1, Exodus 32:1-9

Main Reflection: Buy salve

Purpose: Pay the price

  1. Gold refined in the fire: receive a complete life. Wear white clothes: have your name in the book of life.
  2. Eyes that can see: can see your tomorrow if you have spiritual eyes
  3. Rebuke and discipline: a. Abraham: God told him to leave his country alone. Yet he brought his wife and Lot and thereby brought upon subsequent troubles. b. Saul was not willing to wait and hence unwilling to be disciplined, and he made offerings. c. God’s rebuke and discipline are for you to receive blessings. d. The church is “to enable” you. You must have the spirit of willingness to be taught because it will make your eyes see. e. Stay after meeting to dine and also invite your friends to share testimony and the gospel. Because to win a soul for Jesus is greater than anything else.
  4. To be earnest also needs to repent a. A person’s earnestness must be accompanied by repentance in heart: earnest prayer without repentance will bring on only great ego and carnality. b. Aaron was earnest and yet led the people into sin. c. If you have earnestness but not repentance, you will be excessive in things you do and create problems.
  5. Open the door when you hear His voice a. God will speak to you through reading Scriptures, prayers and words of the pastor b. Desire to hear: does not represent acceptance and action
  6. Eyes opened a. Find the right person to pray for you (like Elisha’s servant in 2Kings 6). Seeing only the troubles around you but not those of heaven will bring fear. b. Work of God displayed: when God speaks to you, act on it. To go to the Pool of Siloam is to be sent. c. When your eyes are opened, God will tell you what to do. Once like that is all you need. Do not labor in vain.
